Intézetigazgató: Dr. Varga Mihály egyetemi tanár
Institute of Machinery and Mechatronics
Predecessor of the Institute of Machinery and Mechatronics was established by Prof Dénes Szabó in 1959. The Institute keeps excellent connections with the other Hungarian Engineering Institutes of Higher Education and the industrial enterprises. Several laboratories help the work of the Institute.

Csanády E.; Németh Sz.; Bakki-Nagy S. I.; Tatai S.:
Investigation of dynamic behaviour of rigid and semi elastic vacuum clamping in the wood industry
Paper deals with the consequences of the different work piece clamping systems used in CNC machine centres in wood industry. Forces and vibrations occurring during cutting were compared between the traditional vacuum system and the more favourable rigid clamping.

Megbízott intézetigazgató: Dr. Tolvaj László egyetemi tanár
Institute of Applied Mechanics and Structures
The first independent department of mechanics was established at the University of Forestry and Wood Sciences in 1962. Researches carried out in the Institute deal mainly with the mechanical investigation of wood and wooden structures. Research work is supported by a few laboratories.

Kánnár A.:
Preload history experiments in spruce wood by acoustic emission testing
During fabrication processing wood material is subjected to considerable heat effect and its moisture content drastically decreases. Paper presents how the emission properties of spruce wood change due to the damages occurring during prefabrication treatments.

Intézetigazgató: Dr. Papp György egyetemi tanár
Institute of Physics and Electronics
History of the Institute goes back to 1765. Until the last reorganisation in 2006 several internationally well-known researchers worked in the Institute. Building of the first Hungarian particle accelerator for instance was managed by one of the famous professors of the Institute, Károly Simonyi.

Tolvaj L.; Barta E.; Preklet E.; Papp Gy.:
Infrared spectroscopic study of photodegradation of wood
Paper deals with the photodegradation of wood caused by different kind of UV-radiators and by radiation of sun. Chemical changes at the surface of wood caused by degradation were analyzed by the infrared spectroscopic method.

Intézetigazgató: Dr. Jereb László egyetemi tanár
Institute of Informatics and Economics
At the University of West Hungary the first information department was founded in 2002. The Department of Information Technology obtained the independent institute status in 2003. The present organisation form was formed in 2007 year, when the department joined with the Department of Wood Enterprise and Marketing.

Bacsárdi L.; Horváth Á.:
Mobile ad hoc networks in the applied informatics
Authors give a brief overview about the typical architecture of ad hoc networks and some of the most important application scenarios. They present a four-layer-architecture which can help to gain information from different sources, and to process and visualise the collected information.

Intézetigazgató: Dr. Molnár Sándor egyetemi tanár
Institute of Wood Science
The predecessor of the Institute of Wood Science was established in 1923. Research field of the Institute professionally covers different areas of wood biology, wood physics, wood mechanics, wood protections and wood utilisations. Four well equipped laboratories belong to the Institute.

Komán Sz.; Molnár S.; Fehér S.; Ábrahám J.; Tóth B.:
Investigation of significant energetic characteristics of locust and poplar plantations
In the years past distinctive attention has been paid to development of technologies utilising the renewable energy sources. Research work of authors was directed to determination the energetic characteristics of the quickly growing wood species being native in Hungary.

Intézetigazgató: Dr. Dénes Levente egyetemi docens
Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing
The Institute was established in 1995. Before that time research work had been directed toward development of wood constructional elements and their production technologies. Later this field was completed by product ergonomics, quality assurance and property planning of products.

Dénes L.; Kovács Zs.; Láng E.:
Innovative wood composites from veneer residues
The newly developed composite presents the most valuable utilization of the sliced veneer waste.  The experimental design method gives valuable results even when investigating several factors’ effect with few runs. The most important influencing factors were: thickness, orientation and pressure.

Intézetvezető: Dr. Takács Péter egyetemi tanár
Institute of Wood and Paper Technology
The Institute of Wood and Paper Technology was established in 1988. The Institute develops and teaches the technology of wood chopping, cutting and improving. Its principal activity is attached to the development of the new types of wood composites.

Bejó L.; Takáts P.:
Causes of warpage in small beech plywood panels and possibilities for warpage reduction
The warping of small plywood panels is a serious problem in terms of their marketability and utilisation. This article reports the results of an investigation concerning the influencing factors of warpage, and its possible prevention in small beech plywood panels.

Intézetvezető: Dr. Szabó Péter egyetemi docens
Institute of Architecture
The Institute wrote, compiled and published several lecture notes and books. Among them the most considerable was the first Hungarian book for building constructions published more than 100 years ago (in 1898). In addition to research and teaching activities the staff consider very important to design and produce wood constructions.

Szabó P.:
Solar positioning of roof surfaces
Solar cells can be placed not only on roof surfaces but on vertical walls as well. According to author’s conclusion the south positioning of solar cells does not always prove to be optimal. In summer more solar energy reaches the vertically located solar cells positioned to east and west than to south.

Intézetvezető: Dr. Mészáros György egyetemi docens
Institute of Applied Arts
The Institute of Applied Arts has fifteen -year tradition of Sopron. The Institute is proud of its young students among them three persons who have already got the architect prize Junior Prima.

Tanüzemvezető: Tóth György
Woodshop
The Woodshop was opened in 1978. During training work carried out here students obtain practice in four steps in the main fields of the manufacturing the joiner-made product like furniture, doors and windows.
