ABSTRACT
The testing of tanks for seismic loads is less common in Hungary, where the maximum value of the horizontal seismic force can be 25-30% of the weight of the structure which is several times greater than the wind load. Seismic loads can be calculated according to several standards. In this article, we use MSZ EN 1998-4:2006. for the calculations. The tank-liquid system can be modeled as a two-dimensional system, and the effects can be summed algebraically. The destabilizing moment increases with the slenderness of the tank (H/R). Since the period time of the flow component is several seconds, its effect is smaller than that of the impulsive component moving with the tank wall.
