ABSTRACT
In this work, the finite element modelling of a polymer sandwich structure was performed under a three-point bend test. The modelling was done using direct meso scale and homogenized macro scale modelling approaches. The main goal of our research was to compare the reliability and efficiency of the two modelling approaches. During the comparison, no error was found in the weight values, proving that the geometries were correct. The reaction force values showed minimal deviation, which is acceptable, since the run time of the simulation was reduced by 78% through the use of the homogenized macro model. This approach also enables the simulation of multiple different core structures, which is a future research possibility.
