ABSTRACT
The study focuses on the numerical investigation of structural components (primarily with cylindrical contact surfaces) used in the lifting of various structural elements. The model is developed using the finite element software Abaqus CAE. Several fundamental issues related to the modeling of lifting lugs are discussed. The paper demonstrates how boundary value problems with highly nonlinear boundary conditions can be implemented in Abaqus and highlights features and common difficulties encountered in the numerical analysis of contact problems involving cylindrical surfaces.
