ABSTRACT

The adhesion-based railway system, as it is known today, has come a long way in its development over the more than 200 years of its history. Thanks to various advancements, the speeds of vehicles and the amount of cargo transported have significantly increased in both passenger and freight transport sectors. This article aims to draw attention to the new or previously less frequently observed forms of damage associated with wheel-rail contact, which have emerged with the introduction of safety-enhancing auxiliary devices (such as slip and spin prevention devices).
