ABSTRACT
We present the integration of Engel e-mac 180 electric injection molding machine into university engineering education. In addition to expanding students’ practical knowledge, this implementation raises the standard of university education. It provides an opportunity for students to learn the parts of an industrial electric injection molding machine, the injection molding tool and their specific role in the molding cycle. Furthermore, they can operate the injection molding machine through programming the parameters of the molding cycle. While optimizing molding parameters, students can learn how to determine the gate freeze time and understand its importance in achieving perfect cavity filling. The injection molding of standard test specimens also offers opportunities for subsequent mechanical testing or hardness measurements of polymers with different structures (amorphous, semicrystalline). Finally, in order to promote environmental awareness, we propose studying environmentally friendly, energy-saving injection molding technologies by utilizing recycled plastics or bio-based polymers with this electric injection molding machine.
